Indian Institute of Information Technology Surat  was established in 2017 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It is funded by State Government and industry partners Gujarat Narmada Fertilizer Corporation (GNFC), Gujarat Informatics Limited (GIL) and Gujarat Gas Limited (GAL) under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Currently, IIIT Surat is operational from its temporary premises at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT).

IIIT Surat provides BTech and PhD courses in a full-time mode. Admission to both courses is primarily entrance-based. For BTech, candidates have to undergo JoSAA/CSAB counselling as well. The candidates are selected through national-level examinations conducted by different authorities. The institution provides primarily two UG programs in Engineering consisting of the fields – Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Admission to all these courses will be made on the basis of performance in Entrance Exams such as a JEE Main.

On the UG level of education, the IIIT MBA is also offered.
