It was established on 3 November 1955. Its headquarters are located at Bajrakabati Road, Cuttack Odisha, India.
BSE was established under the Odisha Education Act, 1953, the board controls and maintains all necessary secondary education in the state of Odisha. BSE is affiliated with all government schools, private schools and colleges in the state of Odisha. It also operates the Secondary Council High School as a secondary modern school.

Important points to Remember:
- The duration of the Exam will be of 3 Hours.
- It is advised that students must report to the examination center at least 30 mins before.
- Students will get an extra 15 mins just to read the question papers only.
- It is compulsory to carry their admit card. Otherwise, they will not allow sitting in the exam.
- Students should not opt for any unfair means of writing the exam. If caught by the examiner student may not opt for the Odisha HSC/10th examination for the next 3 years.
