Sidho Kanho Birsha University (SKBU) was formed in 2010 through The West Bengal Government under Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University Act XII, 2010 passed into the West Bengal State Legislature. It is fully financed by the Government of West Bengal. It lies on Ranchi Road, Purulia Dist. West Bengal. It was named three Tribal Leaders who fought against the British Government by starting the revolution of the Anti-British Nationalist Movement.

The selection procedure is purely merited with a basis for the postgraduate courses, though an entrance examination may be conducted at the sole discretion of the University. An entrance examination and also viva-voce / personal interview is being conducted for admission to the Research program. Candidates with a valid score in GATE, SET or UGC NET are excluded from the entrance exam. Sidho Kanho Birsha University provides a number of courses that could be taken up following the completion of the UG program. It comprises B.Ed., and a number of other Masters programs, in the following streams:

SKBU 2023 Eligibility Criteria:

• For B.Ed., the minimum 50% aggregate at the undergraduate level from a recognized university in any stream, with a 5% relaxation to the reserved categories.
  OR
• A Master’s degree in Mathematics, Social Science, Science or Language, or Engineering degree with Science and Mathematics with 55% aggregate marks.
• Candidates must be not more than 37 years of age by the end of June of the year applying to qualify for a B.Ed.

Passing in three years Hons. program at the undergraduate level is required for Master’s programs. Certain details are as given below:

Candidates must have satisfied the following conditions to be considered eligible to receive admission.

• Advances the Master’s level in the relevant subject from a recognized university, with a 55% aggregate. A 5% relaxation can be granted to those from SC / ST / OBC / Physically Challenged categories.
• Foreign candidates need to produce clearance from the Government to be considered for admission.
• Those who have turned off the NET / SET / GATE or the corresponding examination are exempted from the entrance examination.

SKBU 2023 Result:

Sidho Kanho Birsha University (SKBU) is a country university situated in the Purulia, West Bengal. It was created in 2010 by West Bengal Act XII and is affiliated by University Grants Commission (UGC).

The university aims to be a center for best quality research, advanced learning and promoting native language and culture. There are 25 colleges affiliated with the university. The university provides graduate and postgraduate courses in the academic departments of Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Education, Physics, Political Science, etc. SKBU also offers doctoral programs and diploma courses.

A merit list is released subsequently on the basis of the performance in the entrance examination as well as on the viva-voce/ interview. Performance at the Master’s level or another qualifying degree may be taken into account when selecting the candidates.

Those who have been selected in accordance with the merit list are required to appear for admission counseling, where all the relevant documents have been verified. This includes marks cards of all qualifying examinations and degrees, and caste certificate in the event applying under reserved category. The offer of admission will be given thereafter, and payment of the stipulated fee amount is needed to confirm admission.

The selection procedure consists of an in-depth analysis of marks obtained at the UG level, and the merit list is prepared. An entrance examination may well be conducted for certain PG courses depending on the number of applicants, places available, and the confidentiality of the university. Selected students will be invoked to the counseling process after the publication of the merit list.

Following the publication of the merit list, candidates must provide all original documents for verification at the time of admission counseling, and will just be given the final offer of admission at a later date.

Those applicants willing to appear only in the personal interview round being carried out by the University. Reservation is consistent with the regulations of the Government of West Bengal. Relaxations in the minimum required qualifying marks are also provided for the reserved categories which include the SC/ ST/ Physically Challenged candidates.
