Tamil Nadu Post Basic B.Sc Nursing is a large-scale training program aimed at harnessing the skills and abilities cultivated in Nursing Certificate level. It specifically aims to enhance the critical thinking skills, competencies and ethics required for professional nursing and midwifery practice, as set out in the National Health Policy.

To be admitted to Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, candidates must be in grade 12 with an overall score of 45% with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as compulsory subjects (PCBE).

• Service Certificate : The Service candidates should have completed 2 years of continuous regular service as of 31.05.2019 excluding the leave for which the candidate is eligible/ availed other than casual and compensatory leave.
• Provisional Certificate / Completion of Diploma in Nursing Certificate.
• Permanent Registration Certificate in General Nursing and Midwifery/ Psychiatry Nursing.
• Candidates of Tamil Nadu origin who had studied in other universities and other States have to produce the Eligibility Certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai–600 032.

An in-service nurse is precisely a 10+2 Registered Nurse and Midwife (RNRM) with a three-year General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) Diploma with a minimum of two years experience (post-post registered as RNRM) in the profession.

(For male nurses who have not completed midwifery in the GNM programme, should have a certificate in any of the Nursing courses of 6-9 months duration set by the Indian Nursing Council in lieu of midwifery)
