NIT Silchar Admission 2024 Application Form will be Released soon. National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar was formed in 1967 between the 31 NITs in India and is situated in Silchar, Assam. The university started as a regional engineering college. But even in 2002, the university was included in the list of NITs under the National Institute of Technology Act 2007. This was also declared as the Institute of National Importance.

NIT Silchar offers UG and PG programmes in engineering, science, humanities and 13 other departments. The courses include BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA, etc. NIT Silchar provides admission 2024 on the basis of various national-level entrance exams. For admission to Engineering courses, candidates must qualify JEE Main and GATE entrance exams. Further, for Management and Science stream courses, the institute accepts valid scores of CAT/ CMAT/ MAT and IIT JAM, respectively.  Higher Secondary Examination (12th) qualified candidates from a recognized board of education. Admission will be based on the performance in JEE Mains along with JoSAA.

For Ph.D

Course Specialization Eligibility  Mode of Selection
Ph.D Engineering M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks). At least 8.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (75% of marks). For graduates from IITs/NITs, the minimum CPI requirement is 7.0 (on a 10 point scale). Admission will be based on the entrance examination and interview conducted by NIT. CSIR or CBSE NET/JRF qualified candidates will be exempted from the entrance examination
Science / Management A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (60% of marks).
Humanities and Social Sciences A Master’s degree in any field with a minimum CPI of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) or equivalent (55% of marks).

PLACEMENT: Placement is around 90% base on the core companies, software & various industries.

Also, recruitment is based on different reputed colleges, universities, and autonomous bodies for the M. Tech and Ph.D. students. Pretty much every student has at least a single job.

INTERNSHIP: The internship will be done for undergraduates. We Ph.D. scholar has no need for an internship. MHRD used to give the scholarship to obtain GATE qualified students.

Reservation Criteria:

15 percent of seats will be reserved for SC and 7.5 percent will be reserved for ST candidates. 24 seats (over and above sanctioned intake) are reserved for foreign and other category students for 2006-07.4 (four) seats are reserved for handicapped candidates versus an Assam open quota within the overall allotment of Assam.

NIT Silchar 2024 Admissions Process:

Seat allocation to the chosen candidates of JEE Main will be done through Joint Seat Allocation Authority.

Based on the results of this examination, a merit list is prepared and selected candidates have suggested details regarding the admission process.

Admission to NIT Silchar rests on the entrance exam. For different courses, scores of the various entrance exams are accepted. Given the following is the list of courses along with the selection criteria:

  • Admission of any Indian National will be done on the basis of JEE (Main) scores.
  • Joint Seat Allocation Authority assigns seats to the college.
  • Foreign nationals or NRIs get straight admission into NITs on the basis of rules laid by the government.
MBA
  • CAT\MAT\CMAT scores accepted.
  • Final Selection is done on the basis of performance in the interview and group discussion round.
M.Tech/M.Sc
  • GATE Scores Accepted.
  • The seat allocated by Centralized Counselling for M.Sc and M.Tech.
PhD
  • Written Test Conducted.
  • Interview Conducted.
  • Qualifying examination conducted by the university admission department.
  • Candidates will only be able to get admitted when the Chairperson approves of them.

Seat Availability

Seat availability of NIT will be applicable only for the year 2024. Therefore note that it may change in the upcoming test. NIT Silchar accepts students in the B.Tech, MBA, M.Sc & M.Tech.
