Queen Margrethe I unites Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. This unification lasted until 1520, when Sweden and Finland left the union. Norway left the country in her 1814.

The Danish monarchy has a history of over 1000 years and he is one of the oldest monarchies in the world. One of his best known kings is Christian IV, who ruled Denmark for his 59 years. He carried out many reforms in the country and also built many buildings and cities. Denmark remained neutral during World War I and tried to do the same in World War II. However, in 1940 Germany invaded and occupied Denmark. Resistance groups formed in Denmark to help fight the Germans and were liberated by the Allies in 1945.
